Independent Science Review of the Habitat Assessment and Monitoring Program Study Plan


US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), in collaboration with federal, state, and other entities, requested that Sustainable Ecosystems Institute (SEI) conduct an independent scientific review of the Habitat Assessment and Monitoring Program. This programs goal is to create functional habitat in the Missouri River Ecosystem in order to benefit the endangered Pallid Sturgeon. This ecosystem that has been altered by dams and water management practices which have caused the decline of native fish.

The SEI review panel was asked to evaluate the program’s design and ability to meet its stated goals and objectives within the framework of the Biological Opinion and to provide recommendations for identifying strengths and weaknesses and to suggest improvements in design, protocols and objectives .
